Opel Welcome European Journalists To Ireland

Opel is set to welcome over 550 journalists from across Europe to Ireland next month for the international press launch of two new engines in the Opel Mokka and the Insignia. It has been over 15 years since there has been a major international launch by any car manufacturer in Ireland. The event from February 16th – 27th will be held in the County Dublin and Kildare area with the event based at the prestigious Druids Glen Hotel & Resort in Co. Wicklow. Opel will be launching a new whisper 1.6 litre turbo diesel engine in the Opel Mokka and a new 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine in the Insignia. Speaking on why Ireland was selected as the location for this prestigious international event, Johan Willems, Member of the Board and Vice President Communications Opel Group said: “Opel is currently in the process of a major product offensive with 27 new models and 17 new engines due to be introduced before 2018. In recognition that Ireland is also on the path of a comeback, Opel wanted to launch two engines of major significance for the company here. In addition, we have good memories of Ireland, as we’ve done an International press event almost 20 years ago on the occasion of the then new Opel Vectra Caravan diesel, thus we are closing the loop and coming back with new efficient diesel engines to a country where it’s easy to get a hearty welcome.” Dave Sheeran, Managing Director Opel Ireland continued: “We are delighted to be the host nation for such a significant international launch, and look forward to welcoming our colleagues from across Europe, and indeed the global motoring community, to Ireland. Opel has always had an affinity with the Irish people, so it was a natural fit for the company to stage the international launch of our new engines in this territory.” In Ireland, sales of diesel engines are more popular than petrol with 73% diesel versus 25% petrol engine sales recorded during 2014. The Insignia, Opel Ireland’s best-selling model in 2014, accounted for 30% of the company's sales and was the second best seller in its segment. The 550 media and staff that will visit the country over the two-week period will put a fleet of 40 brand new Opel cars to the test, across the scenic surroundings Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow. The fleet will include new Opel Mokka’s, fitted with the company’s new 1.6 CDTI whisper diesel (136hp) which is extremely quiet and also has exemplary fuel economy with road tax from just €180 per year. The Insignia’s that will be tested will be equipped with Opel’s all-new 2.0 CDTI (170hp) large diesel engine which has lower emissions, increased fuel efficiency and one of the lowest levels of noise and vehicle vibrations from an engine in its class. Druids Glen Hotel & Resort was chosen as the 'home' for the guests during their visit because of its dedication to excellence and attention to detail, coupled with a superior level of customer care. Having recently completed an extensive refurbishment, the hotel offers 145 deluxe guest rooms and suites, two championship golf courses, spa and health club as well as extensive meeting and event spaces. Meanwhile the infamous Palmerstown House Estate in Co. Kildare has been chosen as the press conference location. This venue was one of the set locations featured in the recent TV drama series ‘Charlie’ on RTE1. It was chosen for its idyllic setting but is close to Dublin.
