EXCITING NEW RALLY CARS FOR 2011

New rally cars for 2011 are the Citroen C3, Ford Fiesta WRC and Mini Countryman WRC, replacing the current WRC’s (World Rall Cars) and complying to the new regulations aimed at reducing costs. As before, the new WRC cars are based on standard production models, suitably ugraded and fitted with the latest safety devices and systems. Four-wheel-drive is allowed, but expensive materials such as titanium and carbon fibre are banned. Engines are limited to 1.6 litre turbocharged, but because the new cars are smaller and have a high power-to-weight ratio the performance on the rally stages will continue to be spectacular. The Citroen DS3 follows in the wheel tracks of the highly successful Xsara WRC and C4 WRC, a hard act indeed to follow in lieu of Citroen’s 60 wins in recent years. The DS3 has a power output of up to 300bhp. Gearbox is a 6-speed sequential unit, and the 4wd system features front and rear mechanical differentials. The talented Northern Irish driver Chris Meeke has been signed to rally the new Mini Countryman WRC.
