LUXURIOUS LEXUS GS450h WITH BIG FUN FACTOR By Brian Foley

The brand name Lexus literally translates into luxury, and the latest GS450h combines luxury with high performance and the eco-friendly advantages of a hybrid. Not only is the GS450h a large and exceptionally comfortable saloon, but it has three distinct personalities. In electric mode it glides silently along in traffic with zero emissions. At 100 to 120km/h motorway speeds it is the epitome of relaxing travel. Hit the loud pedal and the 3.5 litre V6 engine emits a rorty note to propel the car forward with the sparkling acceleration more associated with a high performance car than a luxury saloon of limmo proportions.

The GS450h is a front engine/rear drive design. The 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine delivers a healthy 292bhp, whilst the 650 volt electric motor is power rated at 200bhp. Maximum power output of the combined petrol/electric drive is 345bhp. Acceleration from zero to 100km/h is a very quick 5.9 seconds. However, the GS450h is not all about performance as the major emphasis is on interior space, comfort and quietness for effortless long distance travel. Safety is alo a big plus, with all the electronic safety and driving aids, and 10 airbags for optimim occupant protection. Wit its sharp steering and predictable handling, combined with the power on instant call up, its also fun to drive.

The Executive spec. model recently tested is listed at around the €60K mark, whilst the F Sport is around the €73K mark (ex-delivery).
