MORE KIA MODELS By Brian Foley

For a relatively new brand Kia is virtually never out of the news with innovative models either coming soon or being developed for future production. The wraps will be off the all new at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The new 5-door hatchback is longer, wider and lower than before, on the same wheelbase. Mechanicals are uprated, and there is the option of petrol and diesel engines. The stylish newcomer has the sweeping roof line of a coupe with an integral rear spoiler to complete the sporty look. There is even a new style Kia badge. Further away is Kia’s first luxury saloon, which will also be Kia’s first rear-wheel-drive model. Probably not here until 2013 or 2014, Kia describe the new saloon as their flasship model which will “definitely become the leading model of our (Kia) line-up around the world”. The weiird and wonderful Kia Track'ster is a concept model from Kia’s Californian Design Centre. It makes absoilutely no sense whatsover, but has an enormous fun factor. The Track'ster is based on the Kia Soul, but any comparison between it and the boxy SUV is merely coincidental!. The Track'ster has all the go-faster tweaks from lowered suspension to a 2.0 litre turbocharged motor. The 4-wheel-drive system and big tyres are needed to put the 250hp power output down on to the road – or indeed preferably the race track. Two more apt descriptions with the W-Factor for the Track'ster are wacky and wow!
